Duke Lawyers Want Web Site Shut Down

e-mail print friendly

Duke University attorneys said they planned to ask a federal judge on Tuesday to pull the plug on a Web site that supports a group of former lacrosse players suing the school.

Dukelawsuit.com supports the former players, claiming their reputations were tarnished by false allegations.

Duke's attorneys want the site shut down, arguing it and various statements from the plaintiffs could unfairly prejudice the case.

Attorneys do not expect a decision Tuesday.

"Duke Lawsuit - Accountability. Responsibility. Change."

The title on the website! Couldn't have said it better myself!! GREAT JOB!

Granted ... i am a HUGE Duke fan ... always will be ... but REALLY?? this doesn't surprise me! If I were SO WRONG in assuming, and threw members of my school under a BUS I wouldn't want it to be thrown in my face either! They know they were wrong, and they want to just sweep it under the rug and move on! And personally ... i think that's what wrong with a lot of stuff these days! If things were made MORE KNOWN and MORE people were embarassed by their actions ... i think things like this would be less likely to happen!

Lawyers can challenge some of the jury panel but I don't think they can dimiss them all without proof they have been influenced in some way. For or against. I don't think all the panel will say they have been influenced. Some may want to serve on the jury for personal reasons. I am not one of them, I want nothing to do with this case.

Don't lawyers have a certain number of pre-emptive challenges in selecting a jury to exempt individuals who may of been influenced by the site,

The Duke leaders or those making decisions on behalf of the University, need to go figure out a way to put these cases behind them before they get into the courts. Duke is going to loose and the city of Durham is going to loose its cases, too. Continuing to allow this festering piece of history to stay in the media forefront is a huge mistake AND, trying to get the courts to shut down the website only adds fuel to the constitutional fire. Is there any common sense left in Durham/Duke?
