Marriage Overlap Brings Bigamy Charge

Patrick Foye
Patrick Foye

A Johnston County man faces charges for bigamy, but he's lucky it's not two counts.

Police in Selma say Patrick Foye failed to divorce his first wife, before marrying another woman in 1998. He then separated from his second wife and got married again this year, before his second divorce was finalized.

Bigamy is a Class "I" felony that carries a maximum of five years in prison.

The first wife could have charged him, but apparently isn't. The problem isn't that he married too many women, but that he DIDN'T divorce before marrying. Why not a common law divorce law? Oh, common law marriage is gone, isn't it?

Now, had he NOT married, as many don't, then he wouldn't be in this fix. The wife, in this case the second, was harmed and can press charges. How really, was that second marriage valid if he had never divorced the first wife? Get a lawyer, dude.

Mormons, the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, do NOT allow plural marriage, and will kick anyone out of the church who has one.

In an age when plenty of people are clamoring for same sex marriage, which has no precedent, why is no one saying plural marriage has Biblical support and defending it? There is a better case for plural marriage. IF an Islamic man legally immigrates can he bring his 3 wives? It is an ancient religious right. Will the state descriminate against religion?

If you want to know who brought the DA into this mess, I would start with a visit to the not-yet ex-wife!!!

Remember - hell hath no fury like a woman scorned!

What kind of idiot would even want this many wives?

People should be able to have as many wives as they want. Hurray for the Mormons

My question is why? How any man could take it to be married to two at once - WOW - that man needs to have his head examined. One is tough enough.
