Raleigh, N.C. — As Wake Technical Community College prepares to field its first athletic teams in decades, school officials are searching for a mascot for the teams.
Wake Tech will field women's volleyball, men's soccer and men's and women's golf teams in the fall, and basketball, baseball and softball teams are planned in the future.
School officials on Monday will launch a two-week online contest for faculty, staff and students to pick a nickname and mascot for the teams. A committee will choose the top three or four names nominated, and a final round of voting will be open to the public.
Spokeswoman Laurie Clowers said Wake Tech's Student Government Association adopted the eagle as a mascot years ago, but it never gained any traction across campus.
