Fatal Crash Knocks Out Power in Johnston County

A motorist was killed in a wreck Thursday night in Johnston County.

Jeffrey Massengill, 23, lost control of his car as he tried to pass another vehicle on N.C. Highway 210 shortly before 9:30 p.m. Thursday, authorities said.

The car hit a utility pole, killing Massengill and seriously injuring his passenger, Christopher Martin, authorities said.

The wreck brought down power lines, and N.C. 210 was blocked from U.S. Highway 70 to Cleveland School Road as Progress Energy crews repaired the damage and restored power to the area.
