Durham, N.C. — A man arrested for discharging a gun outside died while in police custody overnight Friday.
Police responded to calls about shots fired outside of 105 Infinity Rd. at 11:58 p.m. Officers recovered a weapon and arrested a man without incident at the scene.
Officers said they saw the man stop breathing after he was placed in the back seat of a patrol vehicle. They pulled him from the car and began performing CPR on him, officials said.
The suspect was transported to Duke Hospital, where he died.
The Durham Police Department's Internal Affairs Division has begun an investigation into the suspect's death. His identity was withheld, pending notification of family.
