According to the Office of the State Auditor, the Global TransPark was on the verge of bankruptcy earlier this year. While most industrial parks would benefit from a rail line, building one at the NC GTP makes no sense at all. That's what I meant. I just didn't know I'd have to explain it.

Might an industrial park need a rail line? DUH! Save the $800,000 for something useful. Study???

WRAL reported today at 3:37 p.m., "The North Carolina Department of Transportation will spend $800,000 to study the possibility". They need $800,000 to study the possibility? Why so much? What purpose would a rail line serve? Sounds like another bridge to nowhere to me.

Didn't the state auditor just release a report that showed over the past three years the DOT has wasted more than $150 million of taxpayer money?

It's time for a change at the DOT and it's time for a closer look at who is really benefiting from the Global TransPark and who has a vested interest there. Where are the investigative journalists when you need one? Come on guys, there's a story here. Let's get busy. It's an election year.

First, this is sloppy reporting by WRAL. I mean a 2 line inflammatory story!

Second, as a product of Eastern NC, I have to say the Global Transpark was & is a great idea. The problem is the location. The only major highway access is Highway 70 (the 55 mile per hour portion that goes through about 10 towns between Kinston & Raleigh)

We need to stop spending money on that GTP, even though RTP took 10 years to get off the ground, it was placed in a great location with interestate access & good universities nearby.

As a resident of the GTP Zone, let me say that this study, and remember this is spending just for the study, is the most colossal waste of tax money I have ever read about.
