print friendly

A Wallace police officer shot and wounded a man Thursday afternoon while serving a warrant, police said.

Ronald Brooks Campbell, 27, threatened to shoot Officer James Gant as Gant tried to serve a felony arrest warrant for possession of firearms by a convicted felon, police said. As Campbell went toward a vehicle, Gant thought he might be retrieving a weapon and fired two shots at him, police said.

Campbell was hit by one shot and fled the scene in a white Volvo, police said. He was found in a house about 10 blocks away and was airlifted to Pitt Memorial Hospital, in Greenville, police said.

There was no word on his condition Thursday evening.

The incident remains under investigation, police said.

Yea! Yea! It is such a shame? Any dash-cam video showing that the officer was threatened or just his version of the story? Have they found a weapon in the white Volvo, or the location where they captured him, or at any point in between with Campbell's prints on it?

Scares me to think that he fired at an unarmed man, because it states that he thought Campbell may have been getting a weapon. That pretty much points out Campbell was unarmed.

So glad to see a good outcome for this officer. There are so many good officers out there doing the right thing to try to make the state a little safer for all of us.

But, you can bet some lawyer somewhere is gleefully rubbing his hands together getting ready for the inevitable lawsuit! Such a shame to have to even think of this.

The officer was doing his job and thank God he is alright!
