Wallace, N.C. — A Wallace police officer shot and wounded a man Thursday afternoon while serving a warrant, police said.
Ronald Brooks Campbell, 27, threatened to shoot Officer James Gant as Gant tried to serve a felony arrest warrant for possession of firearms by a convicted felon, police said. As Campbell went toward a vehicle, Gant thought he might be retrieving a weapon and fired two shots at him, police said.
Campbell was hit by one shot and fled the scene in a white Volvo, police said. He was found in a house about 10 blocks away and was airlifted to Pitt Memorial Hospital, in Greenville, police said.
There was no word on his condition Thursday evening.
The incident remains under investigation, police said.

Scares me to think that he fired at an unarmed man, because it states that he thought Campbell may have been getting a weapon. That pretty much points out Campbell was unarmed.

But, you can bet some lawyer somewhere is gleefully rubbing his hands together getting ready for the inevitable lawsuit! Such a shame to have to even think of this.
