Tarboro, N.C. — Bowing to community pressure, a businessman abandoned plans to open an adult bookstore in downtown Tarboro.
Majestic Adult Center, an adult book and video store, had been slated to take over the old Majestic Theatre, at 214 Main St.
Complaints from local residents prompted the City Council to begin drafting a zoning ordinance that would prohibit adult establishments within 1,000 feet of day cares, schools, parks, churches and residential areas.
Majestic owner Ronnie Wiggins has decided against opening the store, citing the local opposition.
