Man Charged in High-Speed Chase With Highway Patrol

Raleigh, N.C. — A Raleigh man has been charged with assault with a deadly weapon on a law enforcement officer following a high-speed chase last week with the North Carolina Highway Patrol.

Aaron Dillon Burnley, 36, of 2432 Bay Harbor Dr., is also charged with felony speeding to elude arrest and driving while impaired in connection with the March 11 chase.

Trooper Matt Cape said he tried to pull over Burnley for suspected DWI. Cape gave chase when Burnley refused to stop.

Speeds reached 110 mph and Cape attempted a rolling road-block, where he passed Burnley's vehicle and slowed down. Burnley, however, rammed into the back of Cape's vehicle and ran off the road.

Burnley was ejected from his vehicle and transported to a hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

He has a DWI pending from September and three DWI convictions in Virginia, according to the Highway Patrol.

The district attorney's office will consider Thursday whether Burnley should face additional felony charges, including habitual DWI offender.
