Fuquay-Varina Man Dies in Motorcycle Wreck

Apex, N.C. — A Fuquay-Varina man died in a motorcycle accident on an Apex road Tuesday evening, the state Highway Patrol confirmed.

Robert Lee Cope, 34, was driving along Bell's Lake Road when he lost control of his vehicle, troopers said. The motorcycle left the road and struck a culvert near Sawyers Mill Drive.

The impact threw Cope off the motorcycle, causing injuries that led to his death.

Speed was a factor, troopers said.

Robert's funeral will be in Fuquay-Varina, NC at Thomas' Funeral Home. He has two kids and many loved ones that he will be leaving behind. There has been a memorial fund/educational fund set up for his kids. You can go to any State Employee's Credit Union to donate money. Just say that it's for the Robert Lee Cope memorial fund. Thank you to everyone who has the family in your prayers. Our main concern right now are his children.

It's sad when anyone dies in an accident of any kind. Everyone in our family rides motorcycles on the street and/or on dirt and we just have to be comfortable that he died doing something he loved. God bless Mr. Copes family.

I was just checking out abc11's site and was watching yesterday as their helicopter hovered over the site for what seems 10 minutes and not a mention anywhere on that site as of yet ! I agree I live just through the trees where Mr Cope died and yes everyday I hear engines screaming there ! three schools just a stones throw from there and rarely a cop !

Unfortunately, Bell's Lake Road is long and straight, and the site of many speeding incidents, including drag racing. I could hear the emergency response vehicles' sirens from my house for this unfortunate accident. Hopefully, Mr. Copes' death will not be in vain, but will be a deterrent and warning to the students from near-by Middle Creek High, who emulate him.
