Firm Pleads Guilty to Illegal Iran Trading Scheme

e-mail print friendly

A telecommunications equipment company with offices on North Carolina State University's Centennial Campus pleaded guilty Tuesday to trying to illegally trade with Iran, authorities said.

Allied Telesis Labs Inc. pleaded guilty to conspiracy to violate the International Emergency Powers Act and agreed to pay a $500,000 fine.

The company, which designs and manufactures telecommunications equipment, including devices capable of routing a large volume of data, conspired to obtain a $95 million contract with the Iranian Information Technology Company to rebuild the telecommunications systems of approximately 20 Iranian cities, including Tehran, authorities said.

Devices developed in Raleigh were to be a central component of the systems, authorities said, but the contract negotiations eventually collapsed.

Allied Telesis Labs is a subsidiary of Allied Telesis Inc., which is headquartered in Bothell, Wash. That company is a subsidiary of Allied Telesis Kabushi Kaisha, a global holding company based in Tokyo.

Greed can make people do crazy things. I concur with the other posts.

I agree with both previous posters.

I also believe actions like this should be considered treason against the USA and should be dealt with like treasonist acts are - use to be hanging, but nowadays the courts probably buy them an ice cream cone. sigh

Praying for us all - we surely need it.

God bless.

I agree

a company that has dealings like that should be asked to remove itself from NCSU Corporate campus and find a location on commercial property.
