Tip Leads to Man's Arrest

Walter Chavis

Walter Chavis IV, 22, of Weldon Terrace, was arrested Wednesday a a result of a CrimeStoppers tip.

Durham Police wanted Chavis on weapons and drug charges.

During a traffic stop on Feb. 24, police found two handguns and marijuana in Chavis' car. The suspect fled on foot.

Chavis, who is on probation on an armed robbery charge, faces two counts of possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, possession of marijuana, resisting, delaying and obstructing officers and misdemeanor larceny.

People in the rest of the country must think that the justice system in Durham is a great big joke. First 2 people on probation (who should have been in jail) killed an innocent bystander and now this guy is on PROBATION for armed robert. Give me a break.

...on probation for armed robbery....PROBATION !...ARMED Robbery..then he gets another weapon during his probation.... TRIPLE the max sentence for this level of crime and make the full time be served, no parole, probation, or early release.
