Triangle residents within a 10-mile radius of the the Shearon Harris nuclear plant could get an earful Wednesday morning.

Progress Energy plans a full-volume test of a new siren system at the plant between 10 and 11 a.m. The siren will sound for approximately three minutes.

If the tests are successful, the new sirens could be implemented April 1.

I think they ought to send us a postcard before every siren test, particularly the full tests like this one. I recall hearing about this test at some point a few weeks ago, but when the sirens went off today, I thought I'd better check the news, just in case I need to cal some people to say my goodbyes as the alpha particles turn me to mush.
