Insurance Worker Charged With Altering Health Claims

Burlington, N.C. — An Alamance County woman has been charged with stealing more than $40,000 after patients' health insurance claims were altered, authorities said Tuesday.

Yvonne Diane Wilson was charged with 98 counts of forgery, two counts of embezzlement and one count of identity theft.

United Health Group Inc., in Greensboro,, contacted the Alamance County Sheriff's Office last month to investigate a suspected embezzlement. Authorities determined a former United Health employee, who worked from her home in Alamance County, had altered patient benefits, causing 98 checks to be issued. The checks, which totaled $40,946, had been deposited into BB&T and Wachovia accounts, authorities said.

Identity information stolen from United Health was used to open bank accounts to deposit the checks, authorities said. More than $41,000 has been frozen in two bank accounts pending court action, they said.

Federal charges might also be filed in the case, according to the U.S. Postal Service Inspector's Office.

You've gotta watch UHC carefully. Last year they deducted funds from what they termed as "Family Deductible" when I have single coverage. The amount in question amounted to over $1200, put me in arrears with my providers and affected my credit in one case. When brought to their attention after an audit, they quickly but quietly reimbursed the providers without ever sending any notification to me. I didn't find out my providers had been taken care of finally until I received updated statements from them. In some cases, this took over four months to rectify.

Watching all carefully now. Don't trust 'em.

Granny - Good questions, here's my take: It all comes down to how they were raised. Only parents that define these moral standards and MORE IMPORTANLY, LIVED BY THEM will raise morally decent offspring. Yes, youth and young adults may be tempted and make mistakes, but by the time they're 20+, there's very little room for improvement except by lessons learned the hard way.

Anyway, just another story of greed and lack of a moral compass causing pain and suffering for those around them. Very sad.

Why do people do these things??? They have to know sooner or later they are going to get caught. People want too much...they need to learn how to live just on their income and not try to do or have more than they need or can afford. Material things are not that important...I don't know how some people can go to bed and sleep at night!
