Gun buyback? Isn't that the program where the government pays gun dealers and collectors hundreds of dollars for the weapons that won't bring $25 on the market?

Or maybe the program where gangsters sell back their $25 gun for $150 and go buy 5 more with money left over for ammo - so now they have 5 times as many guns as before?

I don't recommend these programs. How about a program where packing felons' guns are TAKEN during the process of putting them in jail.

"time for another gun buyback program!"

Buy back? When if ever, did the government own them?

killing will never end. It is a circle of life. We dont like it and its not good or pretty but it is the way of the world. There is nothing that any of us could ever do to stop the killing in the world. All we can do is be the best person we can be and make sure our children are well loved, and raised with morals and understand right from wrong. There is nothing more we can do. THis is disgusting, and people that DO kill should BE killed, but most of the time that doesnt happen either so we are forced to only be concerned with ourselves. The best chance we have at fighting this neverending cycle, is to make sure we do our best in raising our own families. THat is our contribution to the rest of society. Many people will probably say that I am heartless for sayng so, but the fact of the matter is that we as humans, are still animals, and that fact is made abundantly clear in situations like this.

time for another gun buyback program!

I made a comment along the following lines this morning that was never approved by the moderators. Perhaps this one will?

I find it very odd that WRAL was able to cover this story, yet had no one present at last night's Durham City Council meeting, when the subject of crime -- as well as a nearly $300 million investment project partnership to revitalize downtown Durham -- were on the agenda. Right next to this story on the WRAL home page is an article about a Fayetteville project to install a roundabout near downtown.

That's newsworthy, but a City Council meeting and approval of a $300 million downtown plan's deal points aren't? Both major papers and other TV stations covered this story; why not WRAL?

Why does WRAL consistently focus on the crime/violence stories that come out of Durham, while generally ignoring other news out of the community?
