Site SearchFayetteville, N.C. — The Fayetteville City Council approved the Gateway Corridor project Monday night.
Plans call for transforming the area surrounding the Airborne & Special Operations Museum into a city gateway and building a state veterans' park.
The project also requires replacing the Rowan Street bridge with a new one a little farther north. The renamed Veterans Memorial Bridge will go down to a roundabout, connecting Rowan Street to Murchison Road and Bragg Boulevard.
The roundabout will improve traffic flow, eliminate a cluster of intersections and allow the development of unused space, city officials said.
Council members said Monday evening they would take more time to consider a part of the project that would turn 11 acres of Rowan Park into a mixed-use development.
