Cabbie's Testimony in Duke Case Wins Him Award

e-mail print friendly

Moezeldin Elmostafa, the Durham cabbie whose testimony offered an alibi for wrongly-accused Duke lacrosse players, was voted the 2008 Hero of the Year by Reader's Digest readers.

Elmostafa drove two young men home from a party to the Duke University campus on March 14, 2006. He later agreed to testify that one of the accused -- Reade Seligmann -- was in his cab at the purported time of the assault. He swore out an affidavit and produced the cell phone bill that listed Seligmann’s call requesting a cab.

After he committed to help Seligman, Elmostafa was arrested on a charge relating to a minor crime. He believed it was to scare him off the defense’s case. Both Elmostafa and Seligmann were eventually cleared of all charges.

I had no idea they went to such great lengths to intimidate witnesses. this man is not only a hero, but should be compensated for the intimidation. Nifong..you are a heel!

This man is a HERO.

arent witnesses "suppose" to testify? what makes him hero of the year? lol...

I'm sure he's a good man and I appreciate what he did but they give out awards for doing a civic duty? I would hope most people would do the same.

dbcooper41, let me guess you are a cop or the web page was made by a Durham cop or that fine DA maybe tried to Nifong this good cabby prior to his testimony. Remember that nothing coincided with the police reports during this fiasco.
