Smith was released on a $25,000 unsecured bond and is scheduled to appear in Pittsboro District Court on March 7.

Read the charges, it says possession by a felon. If he is a convicted felon, any possession is illegal.

I too am puzzled by this article. The police had a "warrant for other illegal weapons" it said yet a .223 with 30 round clip is not illegal now. They are advertised on the web. This story is a poor example of journalism. It needs more information, especially why the gun was "illegal". Was he a convicted felon?

Typical pump it up press release from the PD. The guy grew some pot, and had an AR15 that many (like me) use as target rifles. I guess saying "Homeowner found growing marijuana in bedroom also in possession of a target rifle" doesn't sell as much advertisement space.

Wow... He fit a whole "farm" inside his house amazing!

Typical ignorant liberal anti-gun reporting. Semi-automatic with a 30 round magazine are legal, and if the write knew anything, they might have been a bit less sensationalistic in their writing. Oh, right, they won't do that until the Amreican public is disarmed.
