Smithfield, N.C. — A senior at Smithfield's Princeton School was killed Sunday evening in a wreck in Johnston County.
The North Carolina Highway Patrol said that shortly before 6 p.m., Caitlyn Bell pulled in front of a Ford Explorer at the intersection of Brogden and Old Sanders roads. She was pronounced dead at the scene.
Riley Boyette, a passenger in Bell’s vehicle, was transported to Johnston Memorial Hospital with minor injuries.
Martin Herrera, 31, who was driving the Explorer was charged with driving without a license, but the Highway Patrol said she will not be charged in connection with the collision since Bell failed to yield the right of way.
Herrera and her two passengers were not seriously injured.
