Cary semi, train collision

A tractor-trailer collided with a freight train Friday afternoon, closing a busy street for hours.

The cab of the semi was turned sideways by the 1 p.m. collision at a crossing on Northeast Maynard Road, but no injuries were reported.

The truck driver said he stopped on the tracks because of traffic, and the cross-arms came down on the rig and trapped him.

Maynard Road was closed between East Chatham Street and Chapel Hill Road in Cary part of the afternoon while crews worked to clean up diesel fuel that spilled in the wreck.

The traffic lights should be programmed stop all other traffic and let the traffic near the rail get through with plenty of time before the cross arms come down. Yeah, this means the sensor needs to be moved further up the track to allow time for all this to happen.

Tacoma.....WHAT? Intersection poorly planned? That intersection has been there for more than 30 years and is marked, lighted , signaled, bells...everything except somebody standing there with a sign that says: DON'T STOP ON THE TRACKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

A poorly planned intersection? (Blame something/somebody else) Stay off of the rails!

That's one of the first things they teach you NOT to do in driver's ed.

Thanking God no one's been hurt.

God bless.

that intersection is poorly planned. I'm amazed this doesn't happen more often.
