The Duke University Police Department was investigating a report from a 21-year-old woman who said she was sexually assaulted near Erwin Road late Thursday.

The woman told police she left Duke University Hospital at about 7:30 p.m. and walked along Erwin Road to Elba Street to get to her car. She said she was between the Civitan Building and Child Guidance Clinic off Elba Street when she was approached by a man, forced to the ground and assaulted.

Anyone with information in the case is asked to call Investigator Gary Smith at 919-684-6424, Duke Police at 919-684-2444 or Crime Stoppers at 919-683-1200.

WRAL, Nice description of the suspect. Why not just report one human being was sexually assaulted by another human being wearing a yellow puffy jacket. By saying it this way you won't offend the male population.

May be a dumb question but since it was just a sexual assault does that mean she wasn't raped but assaulted in a sexual manner?

Interesting that you do not give the description of the assailant given out this morning in an email to the entire Duke community.

"The suspect is described as a large black male, dark skin, very short hair or bald, and some facial hair around his mouth. He was wearing a yellow puffy jacket."

Not pertinent to the story or just not part of the metanarrative?

Could the 2 be connected? I wonder.

Eve wasn't assaulted, though. Well, I mean sexually.
