Security Measures Taken at South Johnston High School

e-mail print friendly

School officials said they have taken security measures at South Johnston High School in the wake of fight last Friday.

Superintendent Tony Parker said a shotgun shell was found in a bathroom at the high school. Law enforcement agents are handling that case, he added.

Parker said he believes the discovery of the shell was fallout from a fight at South Johnston on Friday, Feb. 29. The fight sparked a lot tension among students, and rumors have flown since, Parker said.

Extra security officers were at the school Monday, and security measures have continued throughout the week, the superintendent said.

Parker stressed that the school's principal is working with law enforcement, and security is the school system's top priority. Parker said he feels like South Johnston is as safe as any school in the country.

Parker encouraged parents to talk to their children about the right thing to do. He asked for calm in the school community and for students not to spread or exaggerate rumors.

It's a sad time for the USA.... when children can't even go to school and have to fear for their safety. My grandparents were immigrants and the first thing they taught their children was to learn the American language and culture in order to become an AMERICAN and that instilled pride in this country. The new people who come here have no reason to take pride in their new land. So they seem to have less respect for our laws and culture.

Now when you call some businesses you have to dial 1 to hear the message in English. Why protect the boaders when we don't enforce our own laws here in the good old USA.

I think the kid at VA.Tech was Asian??

I don't agree with you totally "original intent". True, illegals are illegals, but there are certain groups who cause the majority of the problems, and others which cause virtually no problems.

When's the last time you heard of an Indian, European or Asian kid running around committing crimes or gang-banging? Sure there are Asian gangs in California, but around here they're usually perfect citizens.

We need to focus on the groups which are committing the majority of the crimes, the Hispanics.

You can't call is stereotyping when it's backed up by FBI and law enforcement crime data. It's time people quit sugar coating over the facts and focus on the real cause of the problems.

I wonder will they have seperate assemblies at this school as they did at a middle school earlier this year. This was between two different ethnic groups as well.

My daughter graduated from SJHS in 2002. At that time, the worst fights took place in the parking lot between boys arguing over whose truck tires were bigger or muffler was louder. It's a shame this has happened to the school. I never feared her safety when she went there.
