Chapel Hill, N.C. — The Chapel Hill Police Department bid farewell to a K9 officer who had been with the force for five years.
Early Friday, K9 "KC" began experiencing breath difficulties, and veterinarians found that KC was in the late stages of cancer. The seven-year-old German Shepherd had to be put down.
The Kiwanis Club of Chapel Hill donated the funds to purchase KC for the department nearly six years ago. After training, KC was partners with Officer Gabe Shinn for five years.
Officers thanked the Kiwanis Club for the years KC had served with them.
