Time Warner Cable has purchased the naming rights for Raleigh's Walnut Creek Amphitheatre.

Terms of the five-year deal weren't disclosed. The concert venue will now be known as Time Warner Cable Music Pavilion at Walnut Creek.

The amphitheater has been without a title sponsor for more than a year, after a deal with Alltel expired.

The deal with Time Warner, which has a two-year renewal option at the end of five years, will allow the cable company to select shows from the concert schedule to telecast on video-on-demand for cable customers, officials said.

Time Warner also expects to be able to offer advance-sale tickets to select performances to cable customers.

Concerts already scheduled for the Time Warner Cable Music Pavilion are:

  • Widespread Panic, April 25 and 26
  • Kanye West with Rihanna, N.E.R.D, & Lupe Fiasco, May 9
  • Tim McGraw with Jason Aldean & Halfway To Hazard , May 17
  • James Taylor & His Band of Legends, May 28
  • Toby Keith with Montgomery Gentry, Carter's Chord, Mica Roberts, & Trailer Choir, June 21
  • Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers with Steve Winwood, July 12
  • Brad Paisley, July 19
  • Rascal Flatts with Taylor Swift, Aug. 2
  • Kenny Chesney with LeAnn Rimes, Aug. 22
  • Brooks & Dunn with Rodney Atkins, Sept. 6
  • Martina McBride, Oct. 4

You folks will complain about anything won't you. What I think you fail to realize out of this deal is how important it is to have a title sponsor for any venue, be it an amphitheatre or an arena. The costs of putting on a show for some larger name acts can be extremely high, over a million dollars just to book for one night. I'm sure that Walnut Creek was put under some major restraints over the past year due to the fact they were without a title sponsor for the first time in the building's existence. It has to be pretty difficult to operate when you're cut funds simply because a contract went up and wasn't renewed.

For those who complain about acts and ticket prices..know this. The shows are not booked by Walnut Creek, only approved. They are booked by Live Nation corporate based upon 1) who is touring and 2) whether they think it will sell remotely well in this market. Secondly, Walnut Creek doesn't set ticket prices, Artist management does. Its not their fault..its the artist!

Nor do I care what name they put on this place. I wouldn't give you two cents for it. Too bad they don't do a LOT of upgrading & make it into a real place to go for concerts, where you can SIT in a permanent seat instead of on the ground, for big bucks. As a previous Denver, CO resident and fan of Redrocks, this place is downright greedy. No thanks.

Nothing to add here. Everyone has said everything that I'm thinking. One thing though, will ticket prices be as advertised or will there be the mandatory "mystery fee" added to all credit card sales?

Just wondering.

I agree the name is ridiculous, and also agree TWC is thee worst cable provider. The reason for company's to put their name on it is ADVERTISING! ADVERTISING! ADVERTISING! Which equals to it being all about the Benjamins.

For goodness sake, make up your mind!
