Durham, N.C. — Two men have been charged in connection with the armed robbery and shooting death of a Durham man last month, police said.
Delores Benito Gomez, 48, was on Burke Street on Jan. 18 when he was confronted by two men dressed in black who robbed and shot him, police said. After the robbery, Gomez got in his car and drove about two blocks before crashing in the woods near Shoppers Street and House Avenue, police said.
The incident was part of a string of robberies in early January that targeted Hispanics, police said.
Rodolfo Isaac Padilla, 45, of 1315 Morreene Road in Durham, and Ovidio Cabrera, 38, of 1801 Old N.C. Highway 10 in Hillsborough, were arrested late Wednesday and charged with murder in Gomez's death. Padilla was arrested in Holly Springs, and Cabrera surrendered at Durham Police Department headquarters.
Both men were acquainted with Gomez, police said.
