Fayetteville, N.C. — Cumberland County officials on Tuesday appointed a task force to identify sites in the county where groundwater has been contaminated.

The move follows the recent discovery of contaminated water in the Rim Road and Chicken Foot Road areas.

“Cumberland County is responsive to the serious concerns associated with safe water,” Deputy County Manager Juanita Pilgrim said in a statement. “The subject is a complicated one that affects many aspects of our quality of life, as well as our future growth and development. Our first job is to get a complete and accurate map of where contamination of any kind is known to exist. From there, we will consider the possible solutions available to us.”

The following people will serve on the task force:

• Bob Stanger, Cumberland County Engineer
• Matt Rooney, Cumberland County Demographic Info/GIS Technician
• Wayne Raynor, Director, Cumberland County Public Health
• Jane Stevens, Environmental Health Division, Cumberland County Public Health Dept.
• James Brown, N.C. Department of Environment and Natural Resources
• Gene Jackson, N.C. Department of Environment and Natural Resources
• Betty Clark, Cumberland County Information Services
• Grainger Barrett, Cumberland County Attorney
