Morganton, N.C. — A reorganization to increase staff supervision and patient safety at the state's largest mental hospital is complete, officials said Monday.
The federal Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services cut off the funds to the hospital Aug. 25 after a probe into patient treatment showed that after one patient died and another was injured at the Morganton facility.
Interim Director Art Robarge asked federal inspectors to return to Broughton as soon as possible.
Broughton is the only state mental hospital in Western North Carolina.
