Fayetteville, N.C. — Cumberland County authorities filed more charges Thursday against a Sampson County man accused of stealing and reselling cars.
Douglas Johnson McGee III, 27, of 1354 Bowden Road in Turkey, was arrested Tuesday on three counts of larceny of a motor vehicle and three counts of possession of a stolen motor vehicle. Before he appeared in court, investigators filed similar charges in a fourth case.
Authorities said McGee towed broken-down vehicles from along Interstate 95 and N.C. Highway 24 and sold them as scrap metal to a nearby salvage yard.
Investigators said they believe more than a dozen cars were stolen in the scheme, and more charges are likely.
