Willie Carroll Parker, fugitive captured after 42 years

Clinton, N.C. — A Clinton man was arrested Wednesday – more than 42 years after escaping from a Maryland prison, authorities said.

Willie Carroll Parker was serving a 40-year sentence after being convicted of three counts of robbery with a dangerous weapon when he escaped in August 1965, authorities said.

Parker traveled throughout the country and used several aliases in an attempt to avoid capture, and he eventually settled in Sampson County and started a new life, authorities said.

U.S. marshals and the Maryland State Police continued to investigate the case and arrested Parker Wednesday afternoon in a bedroom of his home at 9943 Garland Highway in Clinton.

I used to live in Jamaica Queens about 7 years ago. This man was our next door neighbor for about 20 years. If we would have known with all the devious things this man did, we would've called the authorities a long time ago. I am only 27 years old so, I've known this man and his "family" my whole life. It's really sad to think that we raised a pretty large family in the house right next door to a fugitive. What amazes me the most is that it took the police 42 years to find this man meanwhile he was busy hiding out right under our noses. And, he wasn't exactly hiding. Everyone in the neighborhood knew him. This man got to enjoy his life for the last 42 years. What good is catching him now ? Oh well, I guess there's one less harmless fugitive on the streets. Great Job

I'm not saying he shouldn't be punished, he should. I'm just saying that if we put him in custody now, it's going to be expensive. What's wrong with house arest for the rest of his days, at his expense, not ours?

I guarantee it wasn't a 42 year search. It was more like, pull out the old case file and check a few databases to see if you can find him, then put the case file back up for a few years.

I would like to know what it cost taxpayers for the 42 year search! I hope the guy enjoyed his freedom b/c it's over!

So I guess back in 1965 if you were convicted of robbery you actually got ACTUAL jail time instead of probation/ house arrest/ anger management classes etc.????
