N.C. State tested the WolfAlert text messaging system Wednesday morning, according to school officials.

The test was the first application of the new system which would send text messages to students and school employees in the case of an emergency on campus. Planning for the WolfAlert has been in the works for months. The text messages are one of multiple security measures being implemented by area collegs in the wake of the shootings at Viginia Tech last spring.

According to school officials, the alert was sent at 11 a.m. Wednesday morning to the 12,000 people who had registered their phone numbers. Those who recieved the alert are being asked to fill out an online survey about the service by Friday.

I signed up for the service on the NCSU website. I've got Sprint service, and here at nearly 7PM, I haven't received any text message. I also heard a couple other Sprint customers who never received the message, so I hope they can figure out the problem!

ECU has this too. I just wonder how many people will sign up for these text messages...I don't think too many will.

Another "Noggin Award" - we must adapt to the times! This is another step in making our students safer. Great job NC State!
