Agents from the Drug Enforcement Administration and the Halifax County Sheriff’s Office worked together to arrest a Roanoke Rapids couple on drug charges Tuesday.

A search at the home of Bailey Daniels, 23, resulted in the seizure of two vehicles, an assault rifle and over 4.5 ounces of “crack” cocaine. Agents also recovered $20,000 in cash.

Daniels was taken into federal custody and will be arraigned in Richmond, Virginia.

Verdawn Quinae Johnson, 21, was charged with possession with the intent to sell or deliver cocaine, maintaining a dwelling for controlled substances and possession of drug paraphernalia. She was confined to the Halifax County jail under a $75,000 secured bond for her court date until a court appearance on April 2.

Another case of an unconstitutional federal agency involved in actions reserved to the states. Why do we continue to waste our tax money on an agency intent on taking away our liberties, that our own state law enforcement should handle?

I know Verdawn she dated my brother when they were in high school. Hard to see her being involved in something like this. I know selling drugs is wrong but I cant help but hope this doesnt follow her for the rest of her life. She just got involved with the wrong man!

Maybe the guy is connected and the DEA wanted him. It sounds as if there may be more people to be charged later. The DEA has worked in around the Roanoke Rapids and surrounding areas for many years. I-95 and I-85 along with US 158 are drug runners ideal situation. Plus all the back roads to use, 3 lakes back to back on the Roanoke River to drop drugs in from the air to boats on the lakes at night. I am supprised by the announcement that the DEA was involved in the arrest unless there was potential danger and firefight to break out.
