Cumberland County detectives on Sunday charged a Hoke County man with committing sex acts against a child.

Marshall Fontana Wiggs, 53, of 110 Spacer Drive, was arrested earlier this month and charged with first degree statutory sex offense, second degree forcible sex offense, first degree kidnapping, crime against nature and taking indecent liberties with a child.

Investigators have since learned that Wiggs committed these crimes against his nine-year-old victim on more than on occasion and have charged him with ten additional counts.

Investigators say Wiggs forced his victim to participate in sex acts with him between Jan. 1 and Feb. 8 of this year. He is being held in the Cumberland County Detention Center under a $450,000 secured bond.

Wiggs is expected to make a first appearance in Cumberland County District Court on these latest charges on Wednesday.

I suggest we start putting some sort of collar around their necks, color depending on type of sex crime (child, adult, etc), bright red for child molesters. Collar could only be removed by govenor & would always show their location. Similar to anklet now sometimes worn during house arrest but this way it couldn't be hidden under pantleg. We wouldn't have to depend on sex offender lists which for some reason isn't looked at enough. What is the world coming to when so many so willingly harm our kids? Now they're even stealing cookie money from little kids! As a mother of two young children, such thoughts are never far from my thoughts. The fear of harm coming to them is my worst nightmare.

Just sick, sick, sick. I hope he gets the max. I'm sorry, but when you harm an innocent child that can't defend for themselves, you should get the maximum penalty allowed.

Maybe sex offenders need to start wearing signs that says, "I'm a SEX OFFENDER; BEWARE OF ME".

He'll probably serve a year or less in prison before he's released to do this again. That's our "society".

This man is a dirty dog if he in fact did this. It is horrible the way adults use and abuse our children with no regards for the harm they are inflicting on these kids mentally, physically and emotionally. My prayers go out to this child and his family and I am praying that justice is served.
