Antonio Marrus Speight, 21, was in fair condition at Pitt Memorial Hospital Thursday after leading Tarboro police on a high-speed chase in a stolen vehicle.
Officials said Speight was driving a Mazda stolen from the Whitehurst Exhaust Shop. The car had no muffler, and officers tracked the sound of the car to the Liberty Inn in Tarboro.
After police pulled him over, Speight sped away from the scene, leading pursuers at speeds over 100 mph for about 10 minutes before he crashed on U.S. Highway 64 (Alternate).
Speight faces charges of breaking and entering, larceny, felony fleeing to evade arrest and numerous traffic violations.
