Autryville, N.C. — A local man was arrested Wednesday after deputies found a methamphetamine lab in a trailer, authorities said.

Samuel Scott Faircloth, 41, of 1434 Hayne Stretch Road, was charged with manufacturing methamphetamine, maintaining a dwelling for the manufacture, sale or delivery of a controlled substance and possession of methamphetamine precursors. He was being held in the Sampson County Detention Center on a $200,000 bond.

Deputies searched a trailer and found a small amount of methamphetamine and chemicals used to make the drug, authorities said. A hazardous-materials team was called in to clear the toxic substances from the area.

Sampson County Sheriff Jimmy Thornton said the trailer was close to other residences where small children live.

"It's evident that Mr. Faircloth did not have any concern for his neighbors or their children to manufacture such a toxic substance. The byproducts and the hazards associated with making meth exposed these folks to serious health hazards," Thornton said in a statement. "Imagine the danger of a neighbor's child roaming through his yard and finding one of the potentially deadly components. It's horrific."
