Driver in Fair Condition After Crash, Charges Pending

Charges were pending against a driver whose car crossed the center line, hit a tree and caught fire in Lee County Monday night.

Crews took Jonathan Ammons, 19, to UNC Hospitals by helicopter. He was listed in fair condition.

The wreck happened near Sanford on Colon Road near U.S. 1. Troopers said they believe speed was a factor.

I've heard it is about $10,000, but I wouldn't swear to it. A ground ambulance is pretty expensive in itself.

This is really sad. Another young life struggling to stay alive because of speed. My prayers are with the family.

The phrase "way too much" comes to mind. I've driven that road more than a few times and have many close calls. Way too many turns to to be going too fast on it. Hope he comes out of it ok.

how much does it cost to be transported to the hospital by helicopter?
