Warehouse Fire Causes Traffic Detours in Wilson

A warehouse fire was expected to disrupt traffic in Wilson throughout Sunday.

A fire broke out at the Liberty Warehouse at 1723 Goldsboro St., officials said. Firefighters had the blaze under control nearly two hours later but remained on the scene most of the day to monitor hot spots.

The fire broke out at 3:24 a.m. in an area of the building used to store tobacco. That part of the building was destroyed, but a firewall protected the part of the building that houses a flea market.

Officers set up traffic detours on Ward Boulevard, U.S. Highway 301 and Goldsboro and Hood streets. Officials said they expected Goldsboro Street to be closed from Ward Boulevard to U.S. 301 all day.

The cause of the fire has not yet been released.
