I-95 Chase Ends With Wreck in Sampson County

e-mail print friendly

Authorities found drugs and cash in a car following a Thursday morning chase on Interstate 95 through Cumberland and Sampson counties.

A Cumberland County deputy was trying to stop a white Saturn that had been rented in Florida when the car sped off, authorities said. The reason for the traffic stop was unclear.

A 28-minute chase ensued along I-95, with the state Highway Patrol joining in the pursuit. The chase ended when the Saturn crashed in a ditch near Spivey's Corners, authorities said.

Authorities found three pounds of marijuana and some prescription drugs and cocaine in the car.

Two men in the car were taken into custody, and a woman in the car was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment after complaining of stomach pains, authorities said.

I'm talking about my mom who is beginning to age a little, and who's reaction time ain't quite what it used to be, may panic when a convoy of cars going 110+ mph are heading her way. She might make a wrong move, and whammo, roadkill.

Cops can wreck into innocent people. The people they are chasing can wreck into innocent people. A LOT can go wrong. It's ill-advised to condone anyone driving like that, even the cops. It's the OTHER people on the road that I'm concerned about. If the roads were empty, I'd say chase them till one of them runs outta gas!!!

the only reason you see so much about when someone inocent is injured or killed is because it makes NEWS and gets the average joe's attention...

Truth be Known: Actually, car chases aren't that unsafe. I think you said they usually end in a wreck. You may be right on that one. However, where you are wrong is where someone is injured. Usually, if someone is injured it is the person running. Normally the average person isn't involved. Just because the police back off doesn't keep the offender from backing off from high speeds. Plus most people don't even need the police behind them to make them drive fast just like the two pick ups I observed in excess of 100mph this morning driving in and out of traffic.

"I-95 doesn't go into Sampson County. Cumberland to Harnett to Johnston..."

That's ok, the Fayetteville paper said that they then "proceeded on Wade-Stedman Rd to Sampson County" after the I95 part of the chase had occurred. Hate to tell them, but the Wade-Stedman Rd goes from Wade to (egad) Stedman, and never leaves Cumberland County. Now, W-S Rd does cross Hwy 13 (at the Four Points community), and Spivey's Corner is *the* intersection of Hwy 421 and Hwy 13, near Midway High School...So they are close to being correct I suppose. Maybe they took Wade-Stedman to Hwy 13 then to Spivey's Corner? lol That was an awful lot of twisting and turning to have been much of a "high speed chase".

And for that one success story, how many other chases ended up with innocent people dying? That's one example, and of course I'm glad it worked out. But what about that other recent high speed chase that ended up with an innocent civilian death?

You can always find ONE example to support something. But when you can find countless examples that oppose what you support, you have to consider that, too.
