Deputy and K-9 Hit During Traffic Stop

e-mail print friendly

A driver faces charges in connection with hitting a Wake County deputy during a traffic stop Tuesday afternoon.

Raleigh police said Deputy Jeremy Green and his K-9 pulled over a car on Jones Franklin Road near the Interstate 440 Beltline.

While they were stopped on the side of the road, another car rear-ended them. Neither the deputy, nor the dog, was injured.

The driver of the vehicle that struck the deputy was cited for failure to move over.

The driver was also transported to a nearby hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

ok, deputy in franklin county that hit a man and killed him because she "took her eyes off of the road for a second" is not charge with anything and not even issued a ticket by the highway patrol, yet this person is given a ticket for running into the back of a deputy's car??? amazing!!! and law enforcement wonder why people are always questioning why the law works in their favor and against regular citizens.

Ladyjustice, agreed, but this morning they left out the fact that he had pulled someone, hence the question.

Plain and Simple if you see blue lights move over, if you are not able to move to the other lane just slow down, that is all it takes to keep those hard working deputies and troopers out of harms way! Even if the deputy was not properly off the side of the road whatever you define as proper the person should still respect the blue lights and slow down or move over... probably like a comment someone made, either texting, talking, or sleeping!!!

"Why was the deputy stopped there and not properly off to the side of the road?" - Timbo

I am not exactly sure what "properly off to the side of the road" means - but, the bottom line is that a driver has the responsibility to stop prior to running into the person in front of him/her. This includes moving vehicles and stopped vehicles. For example, when cars are parked in a driving lane (like downtown Glenwood Ave), you don't hit the car if you cannot safely move over to another lane, you STOP and wait for an opportunity to move over. In most cases, if you rear end another vehicle, you are at fault - not always, but most of the time. I suspect that is the basis for most people's opinion who believe that the person who ran into the deputy's car was at fault. Just guessing.

I was not judging... I was only commenting on the previous comments making assumptions without all the facts.

All I did was ask questions; I didn't answer them; nor did I conclude the deputy was at fault, partially at fault, or NOT at fault.

My point was, lots of folks here immediately think the cops are right and the alleged offender wrong, without all the facts.

Also note that the story has been updated several times. At 8:30AM, (I may be wrong), but I'm pretty sure the story did not say he had someone pulled over, it said he was stopped on the side of the road. Hence the question "Did he have his blue lights on?". A reasonable question, no?

On a side note, lots of folks here get sanctimonious if anyone has the audacity to question anything the police do. "I'd like to see you put on the badge, blah, blah, blah." " Try being a cop, blah, blah, blah".

You guys really need to try another rap.
