Teacher Busted in Meth Crackdown Sentenced

Smithfield, N.C. — A former Johnston County elementary school teacher arrested in a county-wide methamphetamine bust in October was ordered Tuesday to attend a diversion program.

Amy Snead, 37, of Four Oaks, was charged with possession of an immediate precursor chemical and exceeding the pseudoephedrine limit but was sentenced on a reduced charge.

Snead taught second grade at Polenta Elementary until her arrest. She was placed on leave and later resigned.

I still say they need to run a stronger back-ground check on all teachers that come into the school system. Its a shame how we trust our children with the adults at the school, when there are some there dealing in drugs. Give her some prison years and it may help to stop this mess. What if she was doing drugs while on school property? Something to ponder.

A slap on the wrist for a meth addict who was supposed to be teaching innocent little kids. Dope is dope, no matter what it is and the punishment should fit the crime. There are thousands and thousands of people in prison for using crack cocaine and I don't see the difference...both drugs destroy lives. The system needs to treat the crimes equally, then maybe meth production will slow down!

I wish one day I could see people getting long sentences for meth. Meth like any other drug destroys families and communities. Crack dealers get longer terms than people who commit murder. Both should be punished with long terms. DRUGS = Death.
