A judge on Monday set a $1 million bond for a man accused of intentionally causing a wreck that killed two people last month.

Victoriano Layon, 36, is charged with two counts of second-degree murder in connection with a fatal crash on U.S. Highway 70 in Garner on Jan. 11.

Wanda Altman, 52, of Clayton, and Daris Hancock, 49, of Star, were killed in the wreck.

Police said Altman and Hancock were at the intersection of U.S. 70 and White Oak Road when Layon rear-ended their Ford Taurus at 45 mph.

Layon then ran from the scene, leaving behind his wife and two children, police said. He was found walking along U.S. 70 the following morning.

Police said evidence from witnesses, including Layon’s family, makes them believe he caused the crash on purpose.

My guess that the reason he's not charged with first degree murder is although he did intentionally caused the wreck; it was a spontaneous act... they would have to prove that he was driving around, after planning to find the victims and then wreck his vehicle into theirs. For whatever reason, I guess he just snapped and proceeded to just try to kill everybody in his vehicle.

If this guy cause this wreck on purpose that took two lives; yet left his wife and children by running, I sure hope the courts give this person about 5o years in prison and some mental evaluation. Regardless if he and his wife was arguing, it did not make sense to cause this wreck.

Do I remember correctly that he and his wife were fighting and that may have been the "intentional" part of the wreck? ( I am asking I really can't remember or don't know )

The Taurus must have been stopped completly - because 45 mph is not that fast - to do the damage it did to that vehicle.

I agree with No_ More _ if it was intentional - why not charge him for murder???

I agree he murdered those people

If the wreck was intentional, why isn't he charged with first degree murder?
