'NC Wanted' Murder Suspect Caught in Drug Raid
Police conducting a drug raid caught a murder suspect profiled by Fox 50's NC Wanted and sought by Roanoke Rapids police in a 2007 case.
Posted — UpdatedOfficers searched an apartment in Dover for drugs. One resident told police his name was Jamal McDonald.
Fingerprints, however, identified the man as Henry Artez Richardson, of Roanoke Rapids, N.C., who was wanted for the May 22, 2007, killing of Charlie Donnell Pierce in Roanoke Rapids.
Dover police contacted the Halifax County Sheriff's Office, which confirmed Richardson's identity. Richardson will be detained pending the extradition process.
Investigators said Richardson and Pierce got into a heated argument around 3:30 p.m. in the Lincoln Heights community.
Bystanders separated the men, but Richardson later found Pierce with a group playing cards outside a house on Stephenson Street. Richardson pulled out a handgun and shot Pierce twice, fatally wounding him, authorities charged.
Richardson fled the scene on foot and had been on the loose.
