Authorities have released the name of a person killed in a wreck involving a dump truck on U.S. Highway 1 in southwestern Wake County Friday afternoon.

State troopers responded to the accident near the New Hill-Olive Chapel Road exit around 12:40 p.m.

Troopers said when a green Chevrolet Malibu came off U.S. Highway 1, its driver failed to stop at a stop sign. The dump truck slammed into the vehicle.

A passenger in the car, Freddie Rogers, 46, of Raleigh, was killed. Driver Darlene McGuffin, 49, of Raleigh, was transported to WakeMed.  She remained in critical condition Saturday night.

The dump truck driver was not injured. Charges could be filed against McGuffin, troopers said.

BIGCHEESECAMATO - you don't know what you're talking about. Cars are the most involved vehicles in fatal crashes and usually at fault. Trucks are safe.

In this case the car ran a stop sign.

I tell you dumptrucks need to be stopped for speeding and such. they should have different lower speedlimits because they are like a moving weapon. I tell you most of the time its someone that just in a hurry to get a load or two and if you pay attention everywhere it always seems as one is going faster than it is suppost to. I wish the DOT would stop all those redneck dudes and women who are driving them way to fast ... This is also why are roads are all torn up around here because of overweight...

Take a day or two and look at all the dumptrucks out of control driving around town blowing debree out the back

Very sad. Thoughts and prayers going out to those involved...

Hate to hear of such happenings all the time!
