My husband and I both grewup in Johnston County. We both graduated high school with excellent grades and went on to obtain college degrees (NC State and UNC-Wilmington, respectively). Please do not make gross generalizations about a county. That's like saying everyone in Durham (the city and the county) are gang members or drug dealers. Yes, there is a large population of people who are not law abiding citizens in Johnston County. However, that is true anywhere you live/go. I currently live in Wake County and am counting down the days that I can move my family back to Johnston County. Please keep in mind that there is a huge difference between being country and being white trash/red neck!

It's not a "domestic dispute," a term better suited to describe a discussion of where to vacation or where the last $50 in the bank account went.This is violence. This is abuse.

Does anyone in Johnston County obey the law? It seems that every issue of the News & Observer and every day on WRAL's web site, there are several eyebrow raising stories of criminal activity, domestic violence, drug busts, etc., etc. I know crime exists in all the surrounding counties, but Johnston County seems to have exponentially more crime, violence and illegal activity in proportion to its population. Has anyone in Johnston County attended school beyond the fifth grade?

This ain't nothin' new for Johnston County. Just listen to the scanner at night and see how many calls they get like this. At one time Johnston County had the Johnston County Knife and Gun Club. To be a member you had to get shot or cut. It had to be done by a family member or a friend. It had to be a weekend or holiday. You had to be drunk or high. You would be surprised how many people qualified to be a member.
