Fayetteville Lawyer Appointed to Judgeship

Gov. Mike Easley on Thursday appointed Laura A. Devan to a judgeship in 12th Judicial District in Cumberland County that was created last year by state lawmakers.

Devan has in private practice in Fayetteville since 1995, handling family, criminal and civil matters. She was also a staff attorney with the East Central Community Legal Services, specializing in employment discrimination and education law.

She received her undergraduate degree from Lafayette College in Easton, Pa., in 1990 and her law degree from the University of North Carolina School of Law in 1994. She is a member of the North Carolina Association of Women Attorneys and the Cumberland County Bar Association.
