Wake Forest Road Widening Project to Get Under Way

e-mail print friendly
Road Construction

The state Department of Transportation will begin widening a half-mile stretch of Wake Forest Road near the Interstate 440 Beltline next week, officials said.

Work will include adding a lane in both directions of Wake Forest Road between Six Forks Road and the Beltline, as well as adding new signals, signs and roadway lighting at the Beltline and widening the highway entrance ramps.

The Wake Forest Road interchange traditionally ranks as one of the most accident-prone intersections in Raleigh.

All work will be done between 9 p.m. and 6 a.m., but lanes also might be closed on some weekends, officials said. Drivers are encouraged to use alternate routes during the project.

The $3.1 million road project, which was awarded to Rea Contracting LLC of Charlotte, is expected to be completed by November.

foetine: where is Trader Joe's going in??

Ugh....I'm glad I don't live on that side of town anymore.

Weren't they gonna widen W-F Road north of the beltline. That's were it's the worst.

it's all about getting a clean cut for the folks wanting to go from Costco to Trader Joe's

I know what you mean happy, it is nerve wrecking in those middle lanes on that road. It would be nice to be able to fold your side mirrors in like you could on older cars back in the day.

more bandaids on a failed transportation plan. We need some real transportation planners with a vision of the future not still looking in the past. You can only lay down so much asphalt. It's time to look at a comprehensive tranportation plan that builds mass transit into the equation. This should have been done ten years ago.
