Mother Charged After Child Wanders Off

e-mail print friendly

A Fayetteville woman was charged with child neglect Monday after her child wandered away from a babysitter's home, police said.

Candice A. Council, 20, of 511 Edwards St., dropped the boy off at the babysitter's home in the 600 block of Campbell Avenue Monday morning but never woke the babysitter, police said.

The child walked out of the home after the mother left, and the babysitter was unaware the child had been left inside the residence, police said.

Officers found the child wandering the neighborhood at about 10:45 a.m., and they located Council about 45 minutes later, police said.

The child was unharmed during the incident, police said.

I guess the age of this child doesn't really matter, but just wondering: Has anyone heard the child's age? Couldn't have been very old I am sure. (If age was mentioned, I missed it-sorry).

Please don't blame the mothers age on her stupidity!

I got married at 19. Had my first child days after turning 20, second child at 21 and now I'm 23 and pregnant with number 3! I am also a stay at home mom who is and plans on homeschooling. I know I'm not the best mom, but I'm not stupid either. Age has nothing to do with ability to parent. I have read about some pretty dumb parents in their 30's.

I have a question... is the babysitter telling the truth? Did the parent really drop off the child without the babysitter being aware that the child was there? or did the babysitter lie to get out of being charged and possibly put out of business? Something here seems fishy to me. Don't get me wrong it could be true, but what if?

Wow. Why didn't the mother make sure the sitter was awake? Why was the sitter asleep when she knew she was supposed to be babysitting? This is a situation where almost everything that could go wrong did. Except thankfully the child was found safe.

This is a Brittany Spears move
