e-mail print friendly

An inmate at the North Carolina Correctional Institution for Women was found dead over the weekend in an apparent suicide, authorities said Monday.

Officers discovered Nicole Bouleris, 29, hanging from her bed at about 8:15 a.m. Saturday, authorities said. The State Bureau of Investigation is examining the incident, which is standard procedure in prison deaths due to non-natural causes.

Bouleris was serving an eight-month sentence for drug-related crimes in Durham County. She had previously served time for an arson conviction in Wake County.

Just another example of how improving our mental health care system could save lives and tax dollars. If this woman had been able to receive proper treatment it could have possibly prevented the numerous crimes she committed from occurring.

Our goal is to get them to see, as the Puritans did, a prison sentence is a time to be penitent before God and to use the time God has given them as time to be restored to God, family/friends and community.

It helped really well.God didn't keep her out of prison or the menatl ward nor did he save her from herself.

As a part of my church’s ministry to the community, we have an outreach to women just being processed into the correctional system. They are housed in a dorm separate from the other inmates at NCCIW and our programs are one of the few they can attend before being processed into general population.

Our goal is to get them to see, as the Puritans did, a prison sentence is a time to be penitent before God and to use the time God has given them as time to be restored to God, family/friends and community.

We give each woman who comes to our programs a “Free on the Inside” bible. This bible has been produced to answer many questions inmates typically ask. Above all, we try and give each woman who comes to our programs a sense of hope and meaning. In this case,I guess we failed. :{
