Chapel Hill, N.C. — The Orange County Animal Services Department took in 10 cats from an adoption facility that a court had ordered be shut down.
A district court ordered All Creatures Great and Small in Hendersonville to close immediately, make improvements and release its 350 animals to other shelters.
The Orange County Animal Shelter rescued 10 of the seized cats. The North Carolina Department of Agriculture & Consumer Services was arranging for other animal shelters and rescue organizations to take in the rest of the animals.
Shelter staff were evaluating the cats and giving them any necessary medical treatment. Staffers said most of the cats will be ready for adoption by Thursday.
