Not that that hasn’t happened 4 billion times since then (since people are extremely selfish on the roads and don't know proper road etiquette) But I am a lot more prepared now. (:

Be considerate, let people over, and if you want to drive the exact posted speed limit the fast lane is not for you. The sign that says "Slower Drivers Keep Right" that sign is for you. (:

I’m a firm believer in making Driver’s Ed tougher. I think everyone should have to pass multiple tests to get their license. Not drive around the block, 3 point turn and memorization of the signs. Put the student out on a track and go 65+ MPH and have students maneuver around cones signifying a car that may veer in your lane or a rubber tire in the road. You never have the opportunity to become skillful unless it happens in real life and it only takes one time to be tragic.

I got my license when I was 18 and didn’t even have to take the class. All I had to do is memorize the signs and drove w/ someone from the DMV down the street for less than 5 minutes and I was a certified NC driver! Scary, huh? I was a terrible driver for the first few months. I can remember a time on the highway a car completely cut me off and I was trying to merge on the highway and I had to slam on breaks. kewlmom-I totally agree. My son also is about to turn 16 - doesn't mean he gets a license. He still lacks the instinct and reactionary skills that make for a safe driver. Some of this comes with experience, but a great deal has to do with paying attention to the road and nothing else. He also will be driving solo the first year or until I feel he has the maturity to allow friends to ride along.
