Carrboro, N.C. — Authorities found a Carrboro woman unharmed after issuing a Silver Alert in the early hours of Sunday morning.
The North Carolina Center for Missing Persons issued a Silver Alert for Anna McKay, 59, around 2 a.m.
McKay had not been seen at Crescent Green Assisted Living, 624 Jonesferry Rd. in Carrboro, since around 7 a.m. Friday. She was believed to suffer from dementia or another cognitive impairment.
Authorities said they located McKay in Chapel Hill before 5 a.m. Sunday. Officials did not disclose details of how McKay was found, but said she was unharmed.
The state Legislature launched the Silver Alert program in mid-December to help find missing adults who suffer from a cognitive impairment. Silver Alerts bypass the 24-hour waiting period before a person can be declared missing, and officers can use highway alerts and automated phone calls to spread the word about a missing person.
